Shoreline Park

PARK REVIEW

I really enjoy Shoreline Park. It is a great place to take a walk or have a picnic. You can walk along the bay or the lake, and the scenery is gorgeous. There is a man-made lake where you can rent paddle or sail boats from the aquatic center. There is a dog park, a kite flying park, golf course, Rengstorff House, and a café. The playground is really cute. It is shaped like a ship.

PLAYGROUND

The playground is designed to look like a ship. Though the idea is really cute, I think it could have been executed a little better. There really aren’t that many activities for the children. There are a few platforms for them to climb on, but once up there, there isn’t much for them to do. There is a telescope on one side and a steering wheel on the other. The younger toddlers will enjoy it because they can easily get up and down the platforms on their own. Older kids will enjoy it because they can participate in imaginative play – especially if there is a large group of kids. I do like the playground, but am disappointed that there aren’t more things for the children to do.

The ship is sitting on sand. I really like the sand here because it isn’t dusty fine grains. The sand is small pebbles. You don’t get as dirty playing in this sand box. There are planks that lead from the sidewalk and grass directly to the ship, so if you do not want your child to play in the sand, then they do not have to go through it to get to the playground equipment.

My 22 month old daughter has a lot of fun on this playground. The platforms are low enough for her to climb up herself. There is a steering wheel that she likes to turn, and she loves playing in the sand.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

PICNIC AREA

There are park benches located along the lake where you can eat. Most people bring blankets and sit on the field.

WALKING PATHS

The walking paths are quite long. You will find a lot of people roller blading, biking, and walking along here. The paths go next to the bay and alongside the lake. This is a perfect park for walking.

MAINTENANCE

The park is nice and clean. You will find a lot of duck poop next to the lake, so watch your step.

RESTROOMS

The restrooms are located in the Aquatic Center. I was disappointed in them though. They were really dirty. The floors were all wet, and there was toilet paper all over the floor.

WATER FOUNTAINS

There are water fountains on the outside of the Aquatic Center and located along the paths.

PARKING

There is a large parking lot next to the Aquatic Center. However, especially on the weekends, it can be difficult to find a spot. This is a very popular park.
